In the framework of the Winter Conference PIEZO2021 titled “Piezoelectrics for End Users XI”, organized by the University of Sassari and the PiezoInsitute, and with the patronage of the Italian Ceramic Society, the organizers offer to students the opportunity to attend a JECS Trust funded Winter School on advances in manufacturing of porous piezoceramics and their applications.
The initiative is designed to provide a short-term intensive course of high quality, targeted at different types of users: both Italian and foreign researchers, doctoral students, post-graduate students or professionals and public or private employees, who deal with ceramic materials.
The 1-day event, organized on Sunday 21, has the main and ambitious purpose to increase skills and competences of young researchers towards the importance, role and implication of lead-free piezoceramic materials from lab to industrial scale, and to introduce key aspects, involving practical experiments, on the preparation of advanced ceramics characterized by porosity on different scales and hierarchy (micro to macro).
Tutorials will be conducted by international experts that will provide unique insights for researchers and those interested in broadening their skills.
Regarding the activities, it is planned to have four invited lectures that will provide useful insights about a variety of approaches to prepare ceramic porous materials
These include:
– Innovative wet chemical routes and characterization techniques of porous ceramics
– Processing of porous and dense ferroelectric ceramics
– Piezoelectric characterization of porous piezoceramics: determination of losses by automatic iterative analysis
– X-ray diffraction and Rietveld Method for structural and microstructural investigation on piezoceramics (Interactive tutorial).
Experts have been identified for these invited lectures (e.g., Prof. Plinio Innocenzi, UNISS Italy; Prof. Lorena Pardo, CSIC, Madrid Spain; Dr. Elisa Mercadelli, ISTEC CNR Italy; Prof. Stefano Enzo, UNISS Italy, Prof. Barbara Malic, Prof. Neus Domingo).
During the conference, young researchers will have the possibility to present their activity as oral (20 minutes) or poster contribution (5 minutes) in front of experts, selected from the international advisory board, who will furnish suggestions about the quality and style of their posters. Amongst all the participants, students will be awarded by different prizes consisting on voucher for publishing on gold open access journals: 4 full vouchers for OPEN CERAMICS and 2 full vouchers for the special issue “Piezoelectric Ceramics: From Fundamentals to Applications” – MATERIALS (mdpi).
The selection of the students will be made according to the i) quality relevance and style, of the research reported in oral/poster, ii) clarity and quality of the abstract submitted to the conference, for which the student must be the presenting author. Furthermore, extended abstract of each participant will be published in the Proceedings book.
Application for a JECS Trust grant shall be made at the on-line abstract submission. Acceptance of the application and the abstract will be sent together with all the instructions for participating to the conference PIEZO2021. A letter from the scientific advisor or department chief stating the situation of the student will be requested to validate the application.
Finally, the event will enable master and phD students to accumulate credit points, necessary for the achievement of their qualification.
To obtain the certificate of attendance to the Winter School it is necessary to attend all the Lectures scheduled on February 21st 2021.
There will be signature forms circulated to the Lecture’s attendees to control the attendance.
